Started the trip on Hickory Run. Thought it would be a decent trip...initially.
That last little brookie came from this run.
Then another...I was on a roll. Even though the fordway road was closed I was able to hike a short way in to the stream.
It was a rainy trip. The first afternoon was just about the only dry period.
These fish are just plain beautiful. Oh, did I mention I was catching them on all drys?
The water was coming up. Should have seen the signs. This is more water than normal but certainly fishable.
Fish like this were hitting for a while. But, I think the increased flows turned them off.
But, I was more than willing to keep catching as long as they were biting.
Hitting the pockets is the name of this game. Can you say "dabbling".
From this pic it doesn't look like the water is rising...but it is.
Switched locations to the pond above the Saylorsvill Dam. Saw fish rising and caught this. Have no idea what it is but it took a fly soooooo.
Next day it was off to the Beltzville dam . USGS showed great fishing flows (100 cfm) in the early morning but by the time I got there they had started to…
I had one small rainbow on but it threw the hook at this location. Not so much as a bump after that.
This is the terrain I had to cross just to get to the water where I caught 0 fish. Maybe when the fish get accustomed to the increased flows they will start to…
At least I had the entire stream to myself!
While at Beltzville I met another fisherman...Dennis. We went to Sawmill Run. It is a much smaller stream and the increased flows were less of a problem there.…
Actually I got two fish here. Can you say "RAIN?" Two days later and my phone is still drying out.
Tried, in vain, to get better pics of the stream but the rain was a problem.
This was the second brown I got at the same location.
Fished above the dam on my way out. Saw a fish rise and thought I should give it a shot. Sure enough two fish hit dries in rapid succession.
